Infrared Sauna Therapy - lowering your cholesterol
Sauna therapy has been around for thousands and thousands of years. People have taken saunas throughout the centuries to cleanse and detoxify their bodies from the inside out. infrared sauna therapy is another way to apply this type of therapy, but it has other benefits traditional sauna therapy cannot provide.
Those who support this type of sauna therapy say that the actual sweat produced when this type of sauna is used is vastly different than the sweat produced in a traditional sauna or during exercise. When a traditional sauna is used, sweat is comprised of 95 to 97% water. Infrared saunas, by contrast, produce just 80 to 85% water. The balance is made of toxins that are excreted, such as sodium, heavy metals, ammonia and uric acid. Perhaps even more startling, however, is that what you excrete also contains cholesterol.
That’s right. You can lower your cholesterol by using infrared sauna therapy. Because you excrete cholesterol through your skin when you sweat, you help get rid of any excess cholesterol you carry, which can provide you with plenty of cardiovascular benefits.
This type of sauna therapy is also good for your cardiovascular system, because it actually dilates blood vessels and capillaries, which lowers blood pressure. Your heart rate increases, which exercises and strengthens it. It may surprise you to know that even if you are a cardiac patient, you may be able to take an infrared sauna, while a traditional sauna may be off-limits to you. Infrared saunas do not put the same excess stress on the heart as traditional saunas do, because they don’t heat up as much and you are breathing cooler air even when you are taking a sauna. Of course, you should check with your doctor to make sure that it’s safe for you to take one.
This sauna therapy also helps you actually lose real weight, because it increases your metabolism so that you can burn as much as 600 calories per half an hour session. It’s true that you’ll regain any "water weight" lost when you rehydrate after taking a sauna. However, because you’ve lost more than just water, the non-water weight is not regained.
Some proponents also state that because we have no choice but to ingest quite a toxic load of pollutants and pesticides, et cetera, in our daily lives, saunas can help us lose weight because as we detoxify our bodies of these unwanted substances, our bodies naturally return to stasis and let go of the excess weight that it has been hanging to as a sort of "protective" measure. Thus, weight returns to healthy levels without effort. It also helps you achieve better circulation, which lets you release other toxins and metabolic waste via sweat through the skin.
Before you begin taking saunas (even if you are healthy), you should check with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you to do so. If you get the go ahead, though, don’t be surprised if you see your cholesterol drop effortlessly once you begin taking saunas. Even though improving your diet and engaging in regular exercise is also recommended, of course, taking a sauna on a regular basis is one way to excrete excess cholesterol even as you utilize diet and exercise to keep new cholesterol from building up.
More mainstream doctors are jumping on board to state that infrared therapy is necessary for good health, too. One proponent in the medical field is Dr. Sherry Rogers. She is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy and Immunology and a Diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. She has written a book, Detoxify or Die; in it, she states that sauna therapy (and infrared sauna therapy in particular) is absolutely necessary for a good health, so that we can excrete toxins we can’t otherwise get rid of.
We weren’t always ingesting toxins at this level, but of course today, we are exposed to pollutants wherever we turn, even if we try to eat organic food and drink purified water. This means that we have chemicals and toxins that we must get rid of, but this is impossible simply through normal evacuation methods so that regular saunas are necessary.
Infrared saunas can be easy to use and inexpensive, too. They come in very portable one-person models that cost just a few hundred dollars, or you can go fancy and buy a freestanding infrared sauna cabin that will hold two or more people for several thousand dollars. Regardless, they are accessible to just about anyone, no matter the space or budget you have.
So check with your doctor, and start getting rid of cholesterol in a more natural way. Even though you may not be able to throw away any cholesterol medication you may have right away, you may be able to get rid of it eventually, once you begin taking regular daily saunas.
